World Kids outreach

If World Kids Foundation had connections in SE Asia, we would be over there in a heart beat, pitching in to help with rebuild efforts after the December 26th Tsunami. But we are not there. World Kids Foundation is a young organization officially registered in August 1997 as a 501 C (3) non-profit. The needs are so great when disaster strikes, it can be overwhelming for us all. Thank goodness the world is mobilized and there are good organizations on the ground operating in SE Asia to bring much needed relief to the victims of this furthermost natural tragedy.

WKF outreach projects and focus for the past 8 years has been in Central America. We will continue reaching out for the under-privileged in Central America, primarily Nicaragua since San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua has become our base of operations. Following, is an update on our latest project…

 SINGLE MOMS SEWING CENTER (Nicaragua)

Last night, we had a group meeting to discuss the sewing centers possible product line which will be within the capabilities of our team signed up and the tools we have to work with. Each team will be responsible for making a line of children’s clothing, school uniforms and summer wear. They will also be making native traditional clothing, costumes, and embroidered delantels for the tourist market. We talked about designing multi-colored “DON’T WORRY “Be Happy Hats” along the lines of felt berets for woman and fedoras for men. We would also like to diversify and provide flags, stunt kites, canvas sunbrellas and upholstery.

Right now all we have to work with is “hope”, “ideas” and “determination”. HOPE that funds to purchase several machines will come through this month. IDEAS, for no lack of imagination and DETERMINATION, because that is how things get done.

We also have plans laid out to establish a small day-care center on site so the children will have a safe and clean place to play while not distracting their mothers. The single moms sewing center is perhaps World Kids Foundations most important project at this time, in the sense that it will be providing self-sufficiency, skills, confidence and much needed economy to 10 local women who otherwise have little or no opportunities available to them.
