| Hi all, Greetings from
the sailing vessel VESPER anchored and roasting in Estero Jaltepecque,
El Salvador.
I am aboard VESPER as her temporary captain on behalf of a friend
working with me to complete the chapter of Costa Rica. All other
countries are mapped out for the book except Costa Rica. This colorful
country of flora and fauna is required in order to complete the
west coast edition of: |

CENTRAL AMERICA”
The First Complete Up To Date Cruising Guide
of Central America.
A new vessel...
| The sailing vessel VESPER
is a 27’ Albin Vega sloop designed and built in Sweden. They
have a reputation for being solid pocket cruisers. A few have even
sailed full circle around the world. The plan is to use VESPER as
a reconnaissance vessel to explore, survey and document the coast
of Costa Rica. The boat is well equipped and for the most part,
ready to go.
The challenge I am up against right now is time, operating funds
and ships paper work. |

A new day dawning...
|
April marks the change of season in Central America when the Trade
Winds begin to settle down and a south west swell starts to roll
in from the southern hemisphere. It’s great for surfing but
not for sailing. Many open roadstead anchorages become bumpy and
unmanageable.
VESPER is currently anchored inside an El Salvadoran estuary which
is guarded by a sandbar at the entrance. Large ocean swells break
upon the sand bar making entry or exit difficult at this time of
the year. May and June become progressively worse. |

However I can’t move the boat just yet as I am waiting for documentation
to arrive in the mail.
Deadlines and sailing do not work well together. Regardless, I am on
a publishing deadline. The objective is to have a complete manuscript
sitting on the editor’s desk on or before June 1st. Can I do it?
Basically, if it can be done…then I’ll do it. I’ve
been pounding at this beast for over 3 years and still standing. If I
lose, well at least I’ll know in my heart that I gave it my bloody
best shot! Losing CCA does not worry me as much as losing Rosio and our
children to perpetual poverty in Nicaragua. That’s a whole story
unto itself.
Too be continued.
