The Adventure Lives On...

I am reporting to you from the good ship “VESPER” now arrived in Northern Nicaragua.

Current position:
12’ 36.55 N
87’ 22.41 W

Marina Puesta del Sol Resort is located in Estero Aserradoeres. I will rest up before setting a course for San Juan Del Sur, most likely tomorrow with the tide. San Juan Del Sur is approximately 130 nautical miles south. I will make a few anchorages along the way to update my reports in CRUISING CENTRAL AMERICA. After San Juan Del Sur and heart break time with Rosio and our 3 babies, I will continue to Costa Rica to finish the job. The sooner the better so I can get back to my family. The plan is to deliver CCA by deadline. But nor will I settle for anything less than excellence. There are no shorts cuts when it comes to doing it right.

S.V. VESPER is an Albin Vega 27

Okay Amigos, here are some details on the boat I am sailing to do the research. (Thanks to kindred spirits Trevor and Patrick)

She is fully loaded with 4 persons life raft, Florentine sea-anchor, wind vane, autopilot, gps, inflatable dinghy, 3.5 hp outboard, paper maps, cruising guides, etc

The Albin Vega has received excellent reviews from sailing magazines and can be found anywhere on the planet (more than 3000 produced!). Some crazy guys even went to Antarctica with a Vega!!! She is incredibly roomy for a 27’ and can store a lot of food and gear.

 Accommodation

Interior joinery is of Mahogany. The interior layout is very simple and can sleep 4. There is a forward V-berth with a head and two hanging lockers. The companionway is made of two 5’9” settees with a stove on port side and the sink and ice box on starboard side. Headroom is 5’9 throughout the companionway.

  • Lee cloth for sea berths
  • One oil lamp.
  • Three ceiling lamps and two reading lamps.
  • All through-hulls have been changed
  • 2 manual bilge pumps

The head is on the starboard and consist of storage and a Porta-potti. I don’t use the P-P. I prefer to “bucket it and chuck it”. But it’s nice to have the Porta-Potti for when lady guests are aboard.
